“Yeah, well, my beliefs don’t recognize marriage.”So basically this Tom Ackerman guy is an asshole with no social skills. Lovely

jgh, if you go read the original article it should be clear that the author is trying to make a point about the pain associated with having one’s own relationship questioned - and further, having no word/way to indicate that your relationship is more than just a gf/bf situation. you may not like his approach to voice this, but in a society that has very clear discriminatory/oppressive policies in place i’m not sure we get to judge how those who are being discriminated against choose to cope or voice their displeasure. As Shaw said “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” Gendered issues in the quote aside, we need a whole lot more people to be unreasonable agitators to shake us hetero masses out of our comfortable obliviousness to the system we help to maintain.

Yep, manners will help overthrow biggotry and intolerance! Good suggestion! If he is a ”passive aggressive asshole” for not recognizing straight marriages, then by your logic, all the people that refuse to regonize gay ones are the same…problem solved through manners! Brilliant!
