Anyone else see the interview between Bob Costas and Bush last night? I was proud of Bob, because he kind of grilled Bush on foreign policy issues, specifically US-China relations. When asked what our position was in regards to a country that is internationally chided for poor human rights records, suppression of freedom of speech, religious intolerance, a repressive government, etc. Bush said “In the long run, America better remain engaged with China, and understand that we can have a cooperative and constructive, yet candid relationship. It’s really important for future Presidents to understand the relationship between China and the region, and it’s important to make sure that America is engaged with China — even though we may have some disagreements.”
I immediately thought, “If I were Bob Costas, my next question would be: ‘So you’re saying that we should sit down and open dialogue with countries we disagree with? Doesn’t that conflict with your incessant message of ‘We will not negotiate with Syria/Iran/North Korea, etc?’”
Oh, and another wonderful nugget - Bush: “First of all, I don’t see America having problems.”
BWHAHAHA. Sad.
