“The People v. Leo Frank” on PBS
Theater buffs may know his name as this story was the basis for the musical Parade, but of course this documentary provided so many facts and historical detail that a musical would never. (So you’re telling me Leo and Lucille did not, in fact, have a picnic in his prison cell where Leo recognizes how much he has underestimated and under-loved his wife and they sing a beautiful song about it shortly before the lynch mob comes?) What the documentary lacks in heart wrenching songs, “The People v. Leo Frank” makes up for in heart wrenching facts.
Also, I now know who Adolf Ochs is! (His name is on a school down the block from my apartment, that’s why I care, thank you very much)
Wait…but there was singing at the trial, right?
